Within Its Grip...
Gentling Breeze moved cautiously through the forest, her pale tan hooves sinking into the thick carpet of leaves that had gathered beneath the trees as they shed their summer garments.  Her olive eyes glanced nervously at the deepening shadows brought by the twilight, the foreign terrain foreboding as each step forward took her further from the home of her birth.  A quick rustle in the branches above her head had her flinching back, haunches and muzzle tucked defensively down, her ears pressed against her head.  Fearfully, she lifted her gaze, breathing a sigh of relief as she spotted the squirrel.  The bawdy creature pointed at her and chatt

MAMA Scared Stiff Contest

What lies within the darkness of night, as you drift off into helpless sleep? My childhood room - unlike this one - was pitch black. Not a bit of light got through my heavy curtains. Every rustle of papers settling was a goblin or imp, and the space beneath my bed was home to alligators, ready to snap at my feet if I had to get up in the middle of the night. That is, if I could even reach the floor - sometimes, I wasn't too sure it was still there. But I always found the courage to brave the darkness and its hidden threats, for in facing them, they lose their power.

This is my entry for the "MAMA Scared Stiff" Contest. I really enjoyed the chance to depict the one thing that scared me in the dark as a child. I didn't really have nightmares... just alligators! This piece also shows how far I've come in recent years with my artwork, both in technique and complexity. This is the most complete and object-heavy digital painting I've ever done.

I know you(r description) said alligators...but all I see is (small-ish) dinosaurs, and I don't know why. D: I've been reading/watching too much Jurassic Park lately, heh. XD

...I have no idea how that posted twice, forgive me. @_@ (And sorry about vanishing earlier this evening. Skype decided to protest my multi-tasking by crashing on me, so I let my computer just sit and do its one thing for a while, hoping it would be more cooperative late.) Anyway! Now I have Metallica's Enter Sandman on my brain, thanks to this image. XD "Hush little baby, don't say a word. And never mind that noise you heard! It's just the beasts under your bed...in your closet, in your head!"
